Celine Dion Claims She was Rushed to Hospital After Marrying René Angélil

Céline Dion says her wedding to René Angélil was memorable for more reasons than one — including the fact that she was injured by her huge tiara.

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer, 56, shared in a new Vogue video that her ornate wedding tiara, which adorned the top of her head with 2,000 Swarovski crystals before flaring out into a veil, ended up becoming a big problem.

Her wedding dress was included among many iconic looks that the singer wore throughout her career, which she provided commentary on for Vogue‘s “My Life in Looks” series.

She shared that she had to be “sewn” into the tiara, and when she rehearsed the nuptials wearing the headpiece in a big ballroom with wooden floors, she had no issues with the weight of it on her head. But she didn’t think to practice in the cathedral where her wedding ceremony was taking place — which had carpeted floors that affected how the tiara felt on her head.

“I practiced and everything is smooth and everything is fine, but when I had to walk in the cathedral, it’s no wooden floor, it’s a carpet. I had an immediate facelift,” she recalled. “And it’s like, ‘Am I going to make it? Am I going to make it to my future husband? But like I said, ‘Oh, I’m Gonna Run to You.’ I did.”

The Grammy winner said the rest of the night went off without a hitch and their family and friends were happy with the ceremony and afterparty. However, she said at the end of the night, she found herself injured.

“When we removed the tiara, I had a cut because the pressure was too much,” Dion shared.

“The next day, I wake up I look at myself in the mirror, I have the size of an egg in the middle of my forehead… It’s so huge that it makes my eyes [go cross-eyed],” she added, noting that they decided to get it checked out by a doctor.

The singer said she was eventually prescribed antibiotics for her to use for three weeks to make the swelling go down. However, Dion said that she wouldn’t change a single thing that happened, as it was one of the happiest moments of her life.

“This is a moment that will be with me for the rest of my life,” she gushed. “The dress couldn’t have been big enough. I could’ve had three times the size on my head. I could’ve had six different dresses that night because he was, and still is, such a wonderful human being. He brought [out] the best in me. He really did.”

Angélil died in 2016 at the age of 73 after multiple cancer diagnoses, including a 2014 relapse of the disease that caused Dion to postpone her previous commitments. He discovered the French-Canadian singer after listening to a demo tape of a song she’d written with her mother.

The couple had three children together — René-Charles, 23, and 13-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy. The manager was also a father to Anne-Marie, Patrick and Jean-Pierre, his children from previous marriages.
