Deadly Shooting Erupts at High School Hockey Game (Video)

What was supposed to be a routine boys’ hockey game turned into a nightmare Monday afternoon when gunfire shattered the stands at Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Authorities confirmed that three people were killed and three others were hospitalized with gunshot wounds after shots rang out during the game. The suspected shooter is also among the dead.

According to officials, the gunfire came from the stands behind the Blackstone Valley Schools bench. Panic erupted almost instantly as players, parents, and children scrambled for cover inside the packed arena.

Police and emergency crews flooded the scene within minutes, locking down the area and establishing a secure perimeter. None of the victims have been publicly identified as the investigation remains active.

Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves told reporters the shooting appears to have been targeted and may stem from a family dispute. Authorities have not yet released details about the identities of those involved.

On social media, stunned spectators shared videos showing flashing lights, first responders rushing inside, and terrified families running from the building. One witness reported that the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing was called in to assist.

The chaos extended beyond the rink. Employees at a nearby Walgreens told police that multiple children ran into the store seeking safety, saying a shooting had just happened. Staff sheltered the kids inside until authorities cleared the area.

Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee said he was actively monitoring the situation and had spoken with local leaders and state police. “I am praying for Pawtucket and everyone involved,” he wrote shortly after the first reports surfaced.

What began as a community sports event ended in tragedy — leaving families shaken, a city grieving, and many questions still unanswered. Investigators are working to determine exactly what led to the deadly violence inside what should have been one of the safest places in town.
