A family outing meant to create childhood memories ended in unspeakable horror when a New Jersey father was allegedly stabbed to death in front of his three young children — moments after he had been teaching them how to ride their bikes.
Jimmy Chase, 40, was outside with his sons on Jan. 8 when a sudden confrontation erupted and turned deadly, authorities say. What makes the case even more disturbing: prosecutors allege the entire attack unfolded in front of Chase’s children, with chilling cellphone video reportedly showing the boys desperately trying to intervene as their father was being attacked.
Mercer County prosecutors have charged Davon Holloman, 35, with first-degree murder, multiple weapons offenses, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Investigators say Holloman is the father of Chase’s girlfriend’s children and became involved in a physical altercation that rapidly spiraled out of control.
“Most of the altercation was captured on a cell phone video,” the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said. They added that Chase’s “three small children can be seen trying to break up the fight.”
The killing has left Chase’s family shattered. His sister, Latoya Chase, called the alleged attack “senseless” in a GoFundMe created to support the children left behind. She said her brother was doing nothing more than teaching his sons to ride their bikes when his life was violently taken.
“This senseless act has left our family devastated. His children are without their loving father,” she wrote. She described Chase as a devoted dad and a respected member of the community.
Holloman was arrested on Jan. 22. He remains behind bars as investigators continue to piece together what led to the deadly confrontation. This confrontation forever changed three young lives in the most traumatic way imaginable.
