A West Virginia librarian is behind bars after authorities say she posted a chilling TikTok video that appeared to call for the assassination of President Donald Trump.
Morgan L. Morrow, 39, of Ripley, West Virginia, was arrested Monday, January 26, and charged with one count of making terroristic threats after investigators determined her social media post crossed a dangerous legal line.
According to law enforcement, Morrow shared a video on TikTok that was interpreted as encouraging violence against the president. In the clip, she allegedly said, “Surely a sniper with a terminal illness can’t be a big ask out of 343 million,” a statement authorities viewed as a direct call for Trump’s death.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Morrow’s arrest in a Facebook post, saying deputies launched an investigation after learning of what they described as “a social media recruitment of individuals to pursue and assassinate President Trump.”
Following what officials called a detailed investigation involving the Jackson County Bureau of Investigations, Morrow was taken into custody and transported to South Central Regional Jail.
Sheriff R.H. Mellinger emphasized the seriousness of the case, noting that while the department stressed the arrest was not politically motivated, the threat itself was alarming.
“This is an active criminal investigation with documented and troubling concerns,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
According to the criminal complaint, deputies first became aware of the post on January 25. Investigators reviewed the video’s content, context, and wording and concluded it was intended to encourage or advocate for Trump’s assassination.
Authorities later traveled to Morrow’s home, where she was detained and questioned. Police say she admitted to writing and posting the video but claimed she did not personally intend to carry out any violence.
However, investigators say intent doesn’t stop at personal action.
Police allege Morrow acknowledged the post was “intended as a threat directed toward President Donald J. Trump” and shared her personal reasons for wishing harm upon him, though those reasons were not detailed in court documents.
Law enforcement stressed that statements encouraging others to commit violence are treated as serious threats, regardless of whether the speaker plans to act themselves.
“Messages like this are designed to encourage, inspire, or entice others to carry out the threatened act,” officials said, adding that their goal was to ensure no one attempted to follow through.
The case remains under investigation.
