Former Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck isn’t ready to slow down. Insiders say his determination to stage a late-career revival in 2026 has friends quietly concerned. They are worried about how hard he’s pushing himself at 80.
Sources tell RadarOnline.com that the veteran actor aims to secure new, high-profile work. After Blue Bloods wrapped its 14-season run, he switched talent agencies. This switch is a bold bid to stay competitive in an industry that now favors younger faces.
Once the iconic heartthrob who played Thomas Magnum on Magnum, P.I., Selleck has openly acknowledged the realities of aging — but insists he still wants to work.
“Sometimes the hours are a little harder because I’m older, but so what?” Selleck has said. “I want to work as long as they’ll have me.”
Insiders say the end of Blue Bloods hit Selleck harder than he lets on. He stepped away. Meanwhile, co-star Donnie Wahlberg, who played his on-screen son, quickly moved into the franchise spinoff Boston Blue. This transition reportedly stung.
“Tom wasn’t ready to say goodbye,” a source claimed. “Seeing Donnie thrive on the spinoff only made that harder. Perception matters to Tom. He still wants to be seen as a leading man.”
That drive, insiders say, is what led Selleck to part ways with longtime agency CAA and sign with UTA — a move meant to signal he’s serious about landing another major role.
Friends worry, however, that the uphill battle may be steeper than Selleck expects.
“He still believes in himself completely,” the source said. “But he’s approaching the business like it’s 1985, not 2025. The system now rewards new faces, not legends — even beloved ones.”
With physical limitations and fewer long-running drama roles available, some close to the actor fear the stress of chasing another big break could take a toll.
“At his age, it’s a grind,” the insider added. “Everyone hopes he finds the right project — one that honors his legacy without wearing him down.”
For now, Selleck remains determined to keep going, proving that even at 80, one of TV’s most recognizable stars isn’t ready for a quiet fade-out — no matter how tough the odds.

I wish him well , it is harder at our age to give up what we love to do!
Never give Up!
At 80 I was driving concrete mixers in Leadville Co in the summer and working as an A&P on treneport category aircraft in the winter in Az. Go for it Tom,I have enjoyed your work since you started. No point in letting your age getting in the way of doing something you enjoy.
He needs to start working out like Pat Boone who is in his 90’s to get rid of the gut. Also, he needs to shave the grey beard and dye his hair to look younger.
