Meghan Markle has landed an unwanted distinction to close out the year.
The Duchess of Sussex has officially been named the most disliked celebrity of 2025, topping a public poll conducted by Ranker.
The ranking is based entirely on user votes, which update in real time, and marks the highest — and most controversial — position Meghan has held on the list so far.
While Meghan, 44, has appeared in Ranker’s top 10 most disliked celebrities every year since 2023, she has steadily climbed the rankings.
In recent years, she has repeatedly traded the top spot with Sean “Diddy” Combs, reflecting ongoing public backlash that continues to follow her public image. This year, however, she officially took first place.
The poll also delivered another blow to the Sussex brand, as Meghan’s husband, Prince Harry, was also ranked inside the top 10.
According to Yahoo Entertainment, the couple remains one of the most polarizing celebrity pairings in public opinion, with voters frequently shifting their rankings throughout the year.
The timing of the poll result is particularly rough for the Sussexes, who have faced a wave of professional shakeups in recent months. Reports indicate that Meghan and Harry have now parted ways with their 11th publicist in just five years, raising fresh questions about instability behind the scenes.
Their most recent communications chief, Meredith Maines, joined the couple in March 2025 as Chief Communications Officer and departed less than a year later.
In that role, she oversaw all external communications for the Sussexes, including Meghan’s lifestyle brand As Ever, Archewell Productions, and Archewell Philanthropies.
Adding to the turbulence, Meghan and Harry also ended their relationship with U.S.-based PR firm Method Communications, which had been hired earlier in 2025 to help promote their business and philanthropic projects.
The rapid succession of departures sparked rumors of internal conflict, including speculation that Maines’ exit may have been connected to a controversy involving deleted photos from a Kardashian-hosted party.
Insider accounts of Maines’ departure have been sharply divided. One source told the Daily Mail that her time with the Sussexes was “an absolute disaster,” suggesting she left to protect her reputation as problems mounted.
Another source pushed back, insisting the split was amicable and that Maines stayed on specifically to manage key transitions after being asked to remain longer than planned.
Maines herself struck a diplomatic tone in her public statement, saying she was grateful for the opportunity and proud of the work accomplished. She cited the launch of Meghan’s brand and website, progress within Archewell, and helping facilitate a meeting between Harry and his father, King Charles, as major milestones during her tenure.
Despite those efforts, the latest poll suggests public sentiment toward Meghan remains deeply negative. As 2025 comes to a close, the Ranker results indicate that even amid new ventures and ongoing philanthropy, the Duchess of Sussex continues to face an uphill battle when it comes to winning back public favor.
