Hero Bus Driver Helps Woman After Hearing ‘Noises That Didn’t Sound Right’

Commuters in Glasgow witnessed the ultimate Christmas miracle when a city bus driver named Pummy turned her route into an emergency delivery room — and helped bring a baby into the world.

The drama unfolded on McGill’s Service 23 when a couple boarded the bus on their way to the hospital. Moments later, Pummy heard strange sounds from the back — and instantly knew something was wrong.

“I heard noises that didn’t sound right, so I stopped the bus,” she said. “When I went over, the lady started screaming — and that’s when I realized she was in labor.”

With no time to spare, the quick-thinking driver called for an ambulance and took charge as the woman began giving birth. “While I was on the phone, the baby started coming,” Pummy recalled. “I helped deliver the baby right there on the bus.”

For tense seconds, everyone held their breath — until the newborn let out a cry. “It was the best sound I’ve ever heard,” Pummy said. “I just grabbed a towel from my bag and wrapped the baby to keep it warm until paramedics arrived.”

Both mom and baby were rushed to the hospital and are said to be in perfect health — all thanks to Pummy’s courage and lightning-fast instincts.

Jamie Reid, Area Director at McGill’s, called her a “real-life hero,” adding: “To stay calm and deliver a baby mid-route? That’s beyond extraordinary. Pummy embodies the very best of what our frontline workers stand for.”

As for the mom and her newborn — they may forever have the most unforgettable birth story in Scotland: delivered safely aboard Bus 23 by a woman who just refused to panic.

  1. What a lovely story! Speaking of “good” Samaritans, this woman is an outstanding Samaritan! In a world with so much divisivenness, it is a pleasure to read of a “good news” event and a woman who was there when she needed to be!
