Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Movie Dreams Crushed by Netflix?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s remaining Netflix slate is reportedly stuck in a holding pattern — and Hollywood insiders are starting to wonder what’s going on.

Sources say the Sussexes’ long-announced film adaptation of Carley Fortune’s bestseller Meet Me at the Lake is still “in development” three years after it was revealed, with no director or cast attached yet. The stalled momentum is raising eyebrows, especially since Netflix is said to have paid about $3 million for the rights.

“Three years in development for a movie like this at Netflix isn’t good,” one source told Page Six, summing up the industry side-eye.

And it’s not the only project apparently still waiting for liftoff.

In September, Harry and Meghan also announced an adaptation of Jasmine Guillory’s romance novel The Wedding Date — but that one is reportedly still listed as “in development,” too.

Meanwhile, the couple has also been linked to a documentary called Cookie Queen, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. Despite positive buzz, the film reportedly hasn’t been picked up by a distributor or streamer yet.

The renewed scrutiny comes as questions swirl around the couple’s overall Netflix relationship. After stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan struck a major deal with the platform. Their docuseries Harry & Meghan was a breakout success — but other releases have reportedly failed to match that momentum.

Now, insiders are warning the clock may be ticking.

“I don’t know how long this new deal is for,” one industry source said, “but if they don’t have anything to show soon, I can’t imagine it will be renewed.”

Adding to the swirl, there are also whispers Meghan has been working behind the scenes to help line up a big interview for longtime friend Oprah Winfrey — with reports claiming she’s been in talks with Brooklyn Beckham about opening up on his feud with his famous parents, David and Victoria Beckham.

An insider claimed Meghan feels a personal connection to what Brooklyn is going through, believing he’s being judged harshly while trying to protect his marriage — a dynamic the source says reminds her of how she and Harry felt during their own highly public family tensions.

For now, though, the big headline in Hollywood is simple: the Sussexes have plans on paper — but fans (and Netflix-watchers) are still waiting to see what actually makes it to the screen.
