Is the clock finally running out on Tony Dungy at NBC?
After 17 seasons as a steady presence on Football Night in America, the former Indianapolis Colts head coach could be headed for the exit as NBC reportedly prepares a major overhaul of its Sunday Night Football studio show.
According to The Athletic, Dungy’s future with the network is suddenly uncertain as NBC looks to revamp its flagship pregame and postgame coverage. While no final decision has been announced, the report suggests the network is strongly considering moving on from several longtime studio voices — and Dungy may be among them.
Contracts for multiple football analysts reportedly expired following Super Bowl LX, though NBC has not confirmed which names are directly affected. One possible compromise? An “emeritus” role for Dungy, similar to the transitional titles previously given to legendary broadcasters Al Michaels and Bob Costas. But whether that option gains traction remains to be seen.
The potential shakeup appears to go beyond personnel changes. Insiders say NBC is exploring a dramatic format shift that could take Football Night in America entirely on the road with a smaller cast — a move that would fundamentally reshape the show Dungy has been part of for nearly two decades.
Dungy, who won a Super Bowl as a head coach and later built a reputation as a calm, thoughtful analyst, recently found himself at the center of controversy during Hall of Fame season.
When New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick failed to secure enough votes to become a first-ballot Hall of Famer, fans immediately began pointing fingers. Dungy, a longtime rival of Belichick, declined to reveal whether he voted for him — both before and after the Hall of Fame Class of 2026 was officially announced.
His silence did not sit well with fellow NBC analyst and former Patriots star Rodney Harrison.
“What I would say, coach, is any list that doesn’t include Bill Belichick at the top is absolutely wrong,” Harrison said on-air. “There’s nobody more deserving to be in that Hall of Fame than Coach Belichick.”
Harrison didn’t stop there. He praised Belichick’s defensive genius and even argued that Tom Brady’s legacy is inseparable from Belichick’s leadership.
“That’s the disappointing part of it, Coach, and you guys got it wrong,” Harrison added.
Whether that tense on-air moment factored into NBC’s reported plans is unclear. But with the network eyeing a bold reset, Dungy’s long run may be nearing its final whistle.
For now, nothing is official. But after 17 seasons behind the desk, one of football’s most recognizable TV voices could soon be watching Sunday Night Football from home.

People’s votes do not have to be announced and approved. That is why most voting is done by private ballot. Just because you don’t announce your vote doesn’t mean you can take for granted any person voted one way or another. This goes for any type of voting!
Coach Dungy is an ICON….Leave him alone NBC
A man of religion, so the NFL wants him out since that is apparently the last thing they want anywhere near the NFL!
A Commie network!
