Anne Burrell’s tragic death just took an even darker turn.
A newly surfaced New York Police Department report has revealed the Food Network star left behind a “suicidal note” in the primary bedroom of her Brooklyn home — dated the very morning she died.
Even more chilling, investigators reportedly found multiple “suicidal” journal entries laid out on the bed, according to the police document obtained by PEOPLE.
Burrell, the larger-than-life host of Worst Cooks in America, was 55.
According to the NYPD report, Burrell’s husband, Stuart Claxton, noticed something was off in the early hours of June 17, 2025. The bed in their shared bedroom had been made — something he reportedly told police was “not normal.”
Moments later, he allegedly found the celebrity chef on the bathroom floor surrounded by over-the-counter pills.
Claxton tried desperately to wake her — shaking her and slapping her face — before calling 911 when she remained unresponsive.
Emergency crews arrived around 7:50 a.m. after a caller reported what was believed to be cardiac arrest. Burrell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Claxton reportedly told police his wife had never attempted suicide before and had “never talked about it.” According to the report, he insisted she showed no warning signs that she would harm herself.
In July 2025, the New York City medical examiner officially ruled Burrell’s death a suicide.
Her cause of death was listed as acute intoxication caused by a combination of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine — a mix of antihistamines, alcohol, and prescription medication.
Earlier reporting from The New York Times, citing an internal NYPD document, stated Burrell was found unconscious in the shower and surrounded by approximately 100 assorted pills.
Known for her signature platinum spikes and fiery kitchen persona, Burrell became a Food Network fixture through shows like Worst Cooks in America and Secrets of a Restaurant Chef.
On camera, she radiated confidence and authority — transforming culinary disasters into triumphs with sharp humor and tough love. Off camera, those closest to her now say they are struggling to reconcile the vibrant personality they knew with the devastating reality of her final hours.
Her family described her as a woman whose “smile lit up every room” and whose warmth reached millions of viewers.
Burrell met Claxton on Bumble in 2018, and the pair wed in October 2021 in what appeared to be a joyful new chapter. She is survived by her husband, his son Javier, her mother Marlene, siblings, and extended family.
But the haunting details contained in the police report — the note, the journal entries, the pills — have left fans reeling and searching for answers.

“Worst cooks in America?” I’m not much of a cook, but I’d never off myself over it. There’s always a nearby McDonald’s if I ever got that sick of my own results.
