‘Tsunami’ Ride Snaps Mid-Air, Killing Officer and Injuring 12 (Video)

A night of fun at a massive international fair in India turned into chaos when a swinging “Tsunami” ride suddenly collapsed mid-air — killing a police officer and injuring at least a dozen others.

The terrifying incident happened Saturday evening, Feb. 7, at the 39th Surajkund International Crafts Fair in Faridabad. Witnesses say the ride was full when one side of its structure appeared to snap around 6:15 p.m., sending the entire passenger car crashing to the ground.

Video filmed by bystanders shows the ride spinning normally before the structure buckles — followed by screams and crowds sprinting for safety as the detached ride slams onto the pavement.

Authorities confirmed that inspector Jagdish Prasad, who was working security at the fair, died while trying to protect people nearby. Haryana Police called his actions “the supreme sacrifice,” honoring him in a statement shared on X.

Several injured fairgoers were rushed to nearby hospitals as officials scrambled to shut down the ride area and secure the scene. Haryana’s chief minister also reacted on social media, saying he was “deeply saddened” and promising immediate medical support and a full investigation.

By Sunday, police announced they had filed a case and arrested two individuals connected to the ride’s operation. Investigators are now reviewing the ride’s safety measures and what went wrong.

Despite the tragedy, officials allowed the larger fairgrounds to reopen, assuring visitors that all other cultural events, food areas, and entertainment zones remain safe while the ride area stays closed.

The Surajkund International Crafts Fair is scheduled to continue through Feb. 15.

  1. Let’s import a lot more foreigners so we can have people killed in amusement parks (and buses driving off of mountains).
