Beloved Child Actor from “How to Eat Fried Worms” Dies at 33

Former child actor Blake Garrett — remembered by many for his role as Plug in the 2006 kids’ movie How to Eat Fried Worms — has died at just 33 years old.

His mother, Carol Garrett, confirmed that Blake passed away on Sunday. The family is still waiting for autopsy results, but she says he had recently gone to the emergency room in Oklahoma with severe pain and was diagnosed with shingles. She believes he may have accidentally overdosed while trying to manage the pain on his own.

Carol shared that Blake had been living a “really good life” in Tulsa over the past three years and was proudly sober, telling TMZ that he had completely turned things around.

Born in Austin, Texas, Blake got an early start in acting, scoring lead roles in local productions like Aladdin and His Magical Lamp and Peanuts: A Charlie Brown Tribute. By age 10, he was touring arenas around the world in Barney’s Colorful World International Tour.

His breakout moment came in 2006 when he joined the cast of How to Eat Fried Worms — a performance that earned him a Young Artist Award.

Blake Garrett was 33.
