6 People, Including a Child, Shot During Mardi Gras Parade

A Mardi Gras celebration in rural Louisiana turned terrifying on Saturday when gunfire ripped through a family crowd, leaving six people shot — including a young child.

The shooting erupted just after the parade kicked off in Clinton, right in front of the East Feliciana Parish Courthouse, according to local outlets WBRZ 2, WAFB 9 and the New York Post. One adult and one child are fighting for their lives in critical condition.

Witnesses say the festive atmosphere collapsed in seconds. “Everybody started running,” one local told WBRZ 2, adding that violence like this “does not happen often in this particular area.”

Sheriff Jeff Travis said the parade was immediately shut down as deputies swarmed the scene. As of now, it’s unclear if anyone has been arrested.

The event was part of the town’s traditional Mardi Gras in the Country celebration — a rural twist on the holiday featuring masked riders on horses, wagons and trucks. The season typically kicks off in early January and builds toward Fat Tuesday, which falls on Feb. 17 this year.

What began as a small-town celebration ended in panic, sirens and unanswered questions — with families now praying for the victims caught in the chaos.

  1. Our country is going crazy!
You cannot feel safe going anywhere or doing anything anymore with these idiots out here
who do not have respect for human lives,
They’re like a bunch of wild animals
    preying upon innocent people.
Minnesota is one of the worst, and now that copycats across the country have to follow suit. What has happened to respect for the law and law abiding citizens? Don’t any of these people have jobs? We know many of these people are being paid to create this chaos.
Get a life people and let other people have theirs in peace!
