Man ‘Crushed to Death’ After Giant Boulder Smashes Through Home

A peaceful seaside home in Menorca became a death trap. A 20-tonne boulder thundered through the roof. It smashed through two floors and slammed into a couple’s bedroom as they slept.

The terrifying collapse unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday in Cala Sant Esteve, when a sudden landslide sent the massive rock crashing straight through the terrace and into the heart of the house.

A 66-year-old man was killed instantly, buried beneath rubble. His partner, 62, somehow survived — trapped, crushed, and conscious — and wasn’t pulled free until more than three agonizing hours later, as rescuers battled unstable ground and dangerous conditions.

Doctors later confirmed she suffered multiple serious injuries, including severe crushing to her lower limbs.

Shockingly, all seven residents were inside the home when the boulder struck. Nearby neighbors were forced to flee as authorities evacuated roughly a dozen homes in the Fort Marlborough area, fearing more rock could come down. A crane was eventually brought in just to move the colossal slab of stone.

The injured woman was identified locally as a worker for the Es Castell Town Council. Mayor Lluís Camps said crews were racing against worsening weather, admitting conditions were “not very favourable” during the rescue.

In an emotional statement, the town council said it was mourning the loss of “one of our neighbours” and pledged full support to the devastated families and all those affected.

Now, experts from the University of the Balearic Islands are being sent in to inspect the cliff face — amid fears more deadly collapses could be imminent.

The catastrophe unfolded as violent storms lashed Spain. Severe weather linked to Storm Ingrid has already caused flooding, power disruptions, and chaos across the region, with Ibiza and Mallorca battered by torrential rain, lightning, and fierce winds.

Spain’s weather authority, AEMET, has issued rare red alerts in recent days — warning that dangerous conditions are far from over.
