Teen Football Star, 14, Shot and Killed Near Home: ‘He Was Such a Beast’

A promising high school football player was shot and killed Friday night in a Southern California neighborhood, leaving his family, teammates, and community in shock.

Jeremy Rosales, 14 — affectionately known as “Tank” — was gunned down near his home in Victorville, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded to reports of a shooting around 8:30 p.m. near Glen Canyon Lane and Burwood Avenue. Rosales was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities have not released details about a suspect or what led up to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, KTLA reported.

A GoFundMe page has been launched to help cover funeral and memorial expenses, describing Tank as far more than a gifted athlete.

“Tank was more than a football player,” the fundraiser reads. “He was a great kid with an infectious smile, a loyal teammate, and a brother to so many who stood beside him on the field.”

Rosales played football at Team Elite Sports Academy and attended Oak Hills High School, where he was known not only for his strength on the field, but also for his work ethic in the classroom. Friends and family said he was a straight-A student.

“He developed a great name in the trenches because he was such a beast,” coach Elliott Reyes told KTLA. “He worked hard in the weight room, on the field. He was the kind of student-athlete you love to have in your program.”

A candlelight vigil is planned for Monday night in Hesperia, as the community comes together to honor a life cut tragically short.

“Your life was cut short, but your memory will live on forever,” a post announcing the vigil read. “Rest easy, Tank. We’ll take care of your mama.”
