Freddie Mercury’s long-rumored “secret” daughter has died at age 48, just months after her existence was publicly revealed, according to reports.
RadarOnline.com reports that the woman known as “Bibi” — a nickname the late Queen frontman reportedly gave her — passed away peacefully following a long battle with chordoma, a rare form of spinal cancer.
Her death comes less than a year after author Lesley-Ann Jones made the bombshell claim that the legendary singer had secretly fathered a child during an affair in the mid-1970s, a revelation detailed in her book Love, Freddie.
According to Jones, Freddie Mercury kept Bibi’s identity hidden from the public for decades, even as his fame reached global heights with Queen. She claimed Mercury privately referred to his daughter as his “trésor” — French for “treasure” — and “little froggie.”
Jones has said Mercury wrote two deeply personal Queen songs about Bibi: Bijou and Don’t Try So Hard.
Despite their close relationship, Bibi lived her life away from the spotlight. Jones claims Mercury maintained contact with her until his death in 1991, carefully guarding the secret from the world.
Bibi’s widower, Thomas, confirmed her death and shared a touching tribute.
“She passed away peacefully after a long battle with chordoma, a rare spinal cancer,” he said, adding that she leaves behind two young sons, ages nine and seven.
“B is now with her beloved and loving father in the world of thoughts,” he added. “Her ashes were scattered to the wind over the Alps.”
Jones has alleged that Mercury fathered Bibi during an affair with a married friend in 1976 and has previously claimed she possesses DNA evidence supporting the story.
The book also describes how Mercury gifted his daughter a globe, which she used to follow his tours around the world, and how she attended his concerts in secret.
According to Jones, the narrative is based on 17 volumes of journals Mercury allegedly gave Bibi shortly before his death from bronchial pneumonia caused by AIDS-related complications.
“She was on a mission,” Jones said, describing her close friend. “She put herself and her own needs last. At the end of her life, all that mattered to her was setting the record straight about Freddie.”
Not everyone was convinced by the claims. Mercury’s former fiancée, Mary Austin, previously said she would be “astonished” if the singer had a secret daughter, insisting she had no knowledge of a child and disputing claims that Mercury kept detailed journals.
Jones countered that Bibi’s illness shaped much of her life, including frequent relocations in childhood to access treatment for her rare cancer.
“She had been in remission for years when the cancer returned,” Jones said. “That’s when she contacted me.”
In the final months of her life, Bibi and her family embarked on what Jones described as a “trip of a lifetime” to South America. Despite her failing health, she fulfilled a long-held dream of visiting Machu Picchu.
When they returned home, she immediately resumed an intense treatment schedule — just as Love, Freddie was released last September.
Her story, revealed late and surrounded by controversy, has added a poignant new chapter to the legacy of one of music’s most iconic figures — and now, it has come to a quiet and heartbreaking end.
