Football fans are sending prayers after former NFL wide receiver and Texas Longhorns legend Jordan Shipley was critically injured in a terrifying accident on his Texas ranch.
According to his family, the 40-year-old suffered severe third-degree burns after a machine he was operating suddenly caught fire. Despite managing to escape the blaze, Shipley sustained serious injuries before one of his ranch hands rushed him to a nearby hospital. He was later airlifted to a trauma center in Austin, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
“His life was spared today by the grace of God and the sheer will to live,” said his brother Jaxon Shipley in a statement on Instagram. “Please pray for full healing and no infections or other issues on his road to recovery.”
Shipley was a household name in Texas football, becoming one of the most explosive receivers in Longhorns history during the Colt McCoy era. He racked up school records in receptions and receiving yards, won the Paul Warfield Award for best receiver in the country, and was known for his electric punt return skills. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2010 and also played briefly for the Buccaneers and Jaguars before injuries cut his career short.
The accident happened near Shipley’s hometown of Burnet, where he now lives a quieter life on his ranch—far from the spotlight he once owned on Saturdays and Sundays.
As of now, doctors are closely monitoring his condition as family, fans, and former teammates rally in support. A wave of messages has poured in across social media, with many remembering Shipley not only for his football legacy, but for his faith and resilience.

Praying for his recovery.
