Television fans are mourning the loss of Pat Finn, the beloved actor and comedian known for his roles on “The Middle,” “Seinfeld,” and “Friends.” Finn passed away Monday night at age 60 after a long fight with cancer.
According to a family statement, Finn was first diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2022 and went into remission before the disease returned and spread. “He was a warrior in every sense of the word,” the family shared.
A familiar face on TV for decades, Finn was perhaps best known as Bill Norwood, the easygoing neighbor on the hit ABC sitcom The Middle, appearing in 23 episodes between 2011 and 2018. But fans also remember his unforgettable guest spots — including playing Joe Mayo on Seinfeld and Monica’s boyfriend Dr. Roger on Friends.
Born in Evanston, Illinois, Finn’s comedy roots ran deep. While attending Marquette University, he played rugby alongside the late Saturday Night Live legend Chris Farley. The two later became roommates in Chicago while performing at the famed Second City improv troupe — a launching pad for some of comedy’s biggest stars.
Tributes are pouring in across Hollywood. Comedian Jeff Dye wrote on X, “He wasn’t just a celebrity to me — he was a friend. One of the best dudes I knew with a perfect sense of humor. I love you Pat Finn.”
Finn’s resume stretched across decades and genres, from Murphy Brown and The Drew Carey Show to Curb Your Enthusiasm, House, 2 Broke Girls, and The Goldbergs. On the big screen, he appeared in Dude, Where’s My Car?, I Love You, Beth Cooper, and It’s Complicated.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, whom he married in 1990, and their three children, Cassidy, Caitlin, and Ryan.
A lifelong entertainer and family man, Finn leaves behind a legacy of laughter — and a reminder of the golden age of television comedy he helped shape.
