Fans expecting sparks at Sunday Night Football got them — just not the kind anyone wanted. A firework launched during player introductions went completely haywire, shooting directly onto the field and nearly striking someone in what witnesses are calling a “heart-stopping” close call.
The chaos erupted at the Baltimore Ravens’ home matchup against the New England Patriots when a pyrotechnic device, meant to light up the sky, veered downward like a missile. Fans screamed as the rogue firework exploded inches from a person walking near the end zone, sending smoke and embers flying across the turf.
Cell phone footage of the near-disaster spread fast online, showing just how close the fiery projectile came to impact. “It could’ve been tragic,” one fan wrote, saying everyone around them “ducked and ran.”

Miraculously, no one was injured — and after a few stunned moments, the game went on. But the drama didn’t stop there: the Ravens lost 28–24 after Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson delivered a crushing 21-yard touchdown run in the final minutes.
The Patriots walked away with a playoff berth — and the Ravens with one wild story about the night their own fireworks turned on them.
Because apparently, even the pregame show wanted to start a little firefight.
