Barry Manilow, 82, Shares Heartbreaking Cancer Diagnosis

Barry Manilow is opening up about a major health scare — and his fans are rallying behind him.

The music legend, 82, revealed that doctors recently discovered a cancerous spot on his left lung following a lingering battle with bronchitis. In a heartfelt message to fans on Instagram, the “Copacabana” singer said he’s set to undergo surgery to remove it.

“It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early,” Manilow wrote. “That’s the good news.”

The bad news, he continued, is that he’ll need to step away from the stage briefly to recover.

“Now that the Christmas concerts are over, I’m going into surgery to have the spot removed,” he shared. “The doctors do not believe it has spread, and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis.”

Thankfully, Manilow reassured fans there will be no chemo or radiation — just a month of rest, “chicken soup, and I Love Lucy reruns.”

After the announcement, Manilow’s comments filled with emotional messages from fans and friends urging him to focus on healing.

“Sending much love to you, Barry! Please take good care of yourself,” one follower wrote. Another added, “Suzanne [Somers] is your guardian angel — she’s watching over you!”

Manilow said he’s rescheduling January concert dates, apologizing to those affected — but fans quickly reminded him that his health comes first.

The beloved performer’s diagnosis comes after insiders reportedly voiced concern over his vaping habit. Sources told RadarOnline earlier this year that Manilow refused to quit vaping, even though friends feared it was taking a toll on his lungs and voice.

“He may have given up cigarettes 30 years ago, but he still vapes, and no one around him thinks that’s a good idea,” one insider said at the time.

Despite the worries, Manilow has continued to perform and bring joy to fans across the country. Now, with early detection on his side, supporters are hopeful he’ll soon be back on stage — stronger than ever.
