A heartbreaking loss has rocked Hollywood — James Ransone, the intense and unforgettable star of The Wire and It: Chapter Two, has died at just 46 years old in what officials are calling a suicide.
According to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner, Ransone was found dead Friday. His cause of death was listed as suicide by hanging. Law enforcement sources told TMZ that police rushed to a Los Angeles residence, where they investigated and ruled out foul play.
Ransone’s breakout role came as the troubled Ziggy Sobotka in Season 2 of The Wire — a hot-headed, self-destructive dock worker whose tragic arc made him one of the show’s most talked-about characters. Fans flooded social media after the news broke, with many calling Ziggy “one of the greatest characters in TV history.”
From gritty dramas to spine-chilling horror, Ransone’s range was undeniable. He appeared in CSI, Burn Notice, Tangerine, and terrified audiences in It: Chapter Two and The Black Phone. He even reprised his role in The Black Phone 2, which hit theaters earlier this year — now one of his final performances.
Friends and fans are reeling from the sudden loss of the beloved actor, remembered for his fearless performances and raw authenticity both on and off screen.
Ransone was 46.
