A seasoned skydiver’s final jump ended in unimaginable tragedy when his parachute failed to open — sending him hurtling hundreds of feet to his death as horrified onlookers watched from the ground.
The victim, 60-year-old Takashi Koyama, was found face down and unresponsive in a Boulder County, Colorado field on November 16. Paramedics tried desperately to revive him, but it was too late — his parachute had only partially opened before he slammed into the earth, authorities confirmed.
Witnesses described the gut-wrenching scene. “He was spinning out of control — it was obvious something had gone wrong,” said Danielle, a bystander who rushed to help. “When I got closer, I realized it was a person. I called 911 and started CPR, but… there was nothing anyone could do.”
The fatal fall happened just steps from the Mile-High Skydiving Center, where Koyama — a certified solo jumper — had taken off for what was supposed to be a routine jump. Instead, it turned into a nightmare.
Photos from the scene show sheriff’s vehicles and rescue crews gathered in the open field as investigators examined the wrecked parachute tangled in grass.
Koyama’s son, Shizuka, is now left to handle the aftermath alone. “He was a remarkable man who cherished both Japan and America,” the heartbroken son wrote on GoFundMe. “My mother passed away years ago. Now I’m the only one left to handle everything.”
The young nursing student is trying to raise funds to cremate his father and honor him with ceremonies in both countries — “a tribute to the life he lived to the fullest.” As of this week, the fundraiser has collected just over $1,300 of its $7,000 goal.

When I die, I don’t want ANYONE asking for money on GoFundMe to bury or cremate me. Which begs the question, if this fellow had money for an expensive hobby like skydiving, why didn’t he have the money for his final disposition or interment? “Never let a good crisis go to waste.” GRIFTERS.
Prayers for his family 🙏
