Vacation Horror as Mom and 10-Year-Old Son are “Thrown Off” Cliff

A mother is stranded in a hospital in Turkey after a horrific accident saw her “thrown” off a cliff with her 10-year-old son.

Rebekka Kelly, 30, booked a safari excursion during a vacation with her son Sonny.

The engine on their original buggy “failed” and, though they were given another vehicle, they experienced problems with the steering and the buggy “flew off a cliff”.

Rebekka, who said her seatbelt also failed, was “thrown out of the buggy” and lost consciousness.

She’s broke seven vertebra in her spine and her pelvis had internal bleeding.

The mom has been in hospital for the two weeks since the crash, as she’s had two operations. The tourist, from the UK, fears the insurance does not cover her and she faces hospital bills of more than $50,000.

“I booked with the TUI rep at the hotel and it was advertised with insurance cover. I had vacation insurance myself but that won’t cover the accident because it’s classed as an off-road sport,” Rebekka said.

“But despite advertising the excursion with insurance cover, we haven’t heard anything as to whether I will be covered. My sister-in-law has called every Tom, Dick and Harry but is getting nowhere. I’m fed up, I just want to get home.

“While the steering failed, my seat belt failed to keep me in the buggy and I was thrown out down the cliff, thankfully Sonny’s seatbelt kept him in. I feel if my seatbelt actually did it’s job I wouldn’t have the injuries I have.”

The crash happened on September 2 – seven days into the vacation in Antalya, a popular holiday destination on Mediterranean Sea.

Now the family have set up a GoFundMe to raise money to pay for expenses and a medical flight home.

Rebekka’s brother Rocky, said 10-year-old Sonny is back in the UK with him, “battered and bruised” and extremely upset. Trying to get his sister home, he said they “just don’t know what to do”. He said online, the trip “advertises insurance as included”.

He added: “The hospital have been hounding her for money, she’s been there for two weeks. She was told she could come home via air ambulance this week but nothing has been arranged.

“She had her own vacation insurance but the small print said they weren’t insured for this accident, they were nice don’t get me wrong but the TUI excursion advertises its own insurance cover as part of the deal.

“She’s in a bad way. She can’t get out of bed, she’s away from her two children. TUI aren’t getting back to us, we need to get her back home so she can have more surgery in the UK but we can’t get through to anyone.

“We are really concerned about her. If TUI aren’t willing to pay out the insurance and pay the medical bill we don’t know what we are going to do, we don’t have that kind of money and through no fault of her own she’s facing this.

“These injuries are going to change her life and we still don’t know the true extent until she’s home. Sonny is crying, he’s in so much pain emotionally. We’ve made hundreds of phone calls to TUI, they are supplying flights so we can see her but we’ve heard nothing about the insurance cover.

“We haven’t a clue what is going in. It says on the advert the price includes insurance so why aren’t they helping? Rebekka is really struggling. She has no memory of how she got to the hospital, she was knocked unconscious.”

Rocky went on to say he feels they are being “neglected” by TUI and fear how they can raise the funds to get Rebekka home.

Parents Sue After School Bus Ran Over and Killed 6-Year-Old Girl

The parents of six-year-old Emory Sayre, who was hit and killed by her own school bus, is suing the school district and two companies responsible for the vehicle.

Reports Show that Sean and Tori Sayre, Emory’s parents, have filed a complaint in Dallas County against the Brock Independent School District as well as the Blue Bird bus manufacturer and Rush Truck Centers of Texas, which sold the school the bus.

On April 25th, Emory was the last child to exit her bus. When she stepped out of the vehicle she fell down and rolled under the right side of the bus. The bus then began driving, running her over with its front right and rear tires. She died an hour later at the Medical City hospital in Weatherford, Texas.

After learning that Emory had been run over, the Brock Independent School District issued a statement on its Facebook page.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm reports that a student was involved in a school bus accident this afternoon,” the district said. “No other students were injured. We are working through the accident with local law enforcement and school administrators but our focus remains on the healing of one of our own at this time. Please join us by adding this student to your thoughts and prayers.”

John Tarrant, the director of communications at Brock ISD, told reporters the district could not comment further on the incident due to pending litigation.

“We continue to offer our prayers and condolences to Emory’s family. Based on potential legal action the District doesn’t have any further comments at this time,” he said.

According to broadcaster WFAA, which obtained a copy of the complaint, the lawsuit brought by Emory’s parents is demanding damages in excess of $1m and alleges the school was negligent in its upkeep of the buses and should be liable for alleged insufficient training for its drivers.

It also claims Blue Bird and the retailer sold a bus they allegedly knew was unsafe because, the complaint claims, the bus lacked safety features present in other busses like cameras, sensors or a front crossing arm.

Emory’s family spoke with WFAA and revealed that the girl’s two brothers witnessed the event as it occurred in front of their home.

Tori (Emory’s mother) said her daughter had to be airlifted to a hospital. She rushed there to be with her daughter, but was told she had died.

“The doctor came in and he looked at me and he said, ‘I’m sorry, you know, she – she didn’t make it.’ At the time I didn’t have a reaction. I just stood there and looked at him,” Tori told the broadcaster. “I sat there for about 30 minutes. Just staring.”

The family said it no longer allows their children to ride school buses.

Woman Dies After Boyfriend Pretends to Have Cancer to Manipulate Her

Jennifer Joynt, a 36-year-old well-respected travel manager, was found dead in her home dealing with a ‘toxic partner’ who allegedly faked his cancer diagnosis.

Her whole life was turned upside down and “messed up” by a man who allegedly faked having stage four cancer to control her.

Jennifer was tragically found dead in her bed by her dad, after he forced his way into her home in Manchester, UK on February 26, report show.

Her family became concerned about her after they hadn’t heard from her in days.

An investigation into her death, held at South Manchester Coroner’s Court, heard Jennifer had experienced problems with her mental health in the past. The court heard that family and friends supported her during these difficult periods of her life.

The investigation also outlined that while there were signs Jennifer was considering suicide, she did not appear to have taken her own life. Tributes to Jenni praised her abundance of energy, and described her as “someone who would simply light up a room”.

Notes addressed to her family and friends in notebooks were found by police, scattered around her room. There were also notes on her phone, as well as video messages recorded for her loved ones, in the months before her death.

Police found that while some of these notes had been edited on her mobile, there was nothing to indicate they were true indications that she intended to take her own life.

Similar notes had also been written on other occasions, which had not led to her attempting to take her own life.

There was evidence that Jennifer had attempted to purchase a particular drug, which has appeared in several other suicide inquests recently. While police were able to establish that most of the companies she reached out to had declined the sale.

There was one purchase attempt that had not been declined, but officers were unable to establish whether the sale had gone through and whether the substance was delivered.

Police said they could not find any evidence of packaging or a container for this substance in the home, although when Jennifer’s phone was unlocked by officers, they discovered that she had been visiting a site instructing her on what medications to take alongside this substance to take her own life.

Traces of these drugs were found within her system.

Professor Hunt, pathologist who performed the autopsy, confirmed the cause of death as aspiration of gastric contents. This means that food or fluid she had consumed had caused a blockage in her windpipe or lungs.

Toxicology results showed a range of non-lethal levels of various drugs in her system, but these were not highlighted as contributing factors to Jennifer’s death.

Jennifer’s mom, Margaret, told the court about her “bubbly and strong” daughter who “embraced life” and loved fitness and traveling.

However, she also said an extremely “toxic” relationship in the months before her daughter’s death consumed her, with the young woman unable to let go of her partner who allegedly faked having stage four cancer in a bid to control her.

After a tough few months of set-backs, things started to look up for Jennifer, with the young woman in the process of buying a new house, set to start a new job just weeks after her death, and even taking trips away with friends and making plans to spend time with those around her.

Her dad told the court his daughter spoke to people that were struggling and actively tried to help them and “just seemed to love life so much”, leaving her family feeling like she was finally turning a corner and starting to get better after a horrific ordeal.

Coroner Alison Mutch recorded a narrative conclusion that Jennifer died from complications of asphyxia, as it was impossible to tell on the balance of probabilities whether or not the young woman had ingested something in an attempt to take her own life.

Jennifer’s family established the Jenni Joynt Foundation, which aims to help others who have faced, or are facing similar mental health challenges to which she succumbed.

Family Poisoned with Carbon Monoxide – Was It an Accident or Murder-Suicide?

A father has died after reportedly filling his home with carbon monoxide, killing his 10-year-old son and critically injuring his daughter, police said.

The children’s mother discovered the harrowing scene Sunday evening when her estranged husband Woo Chang, 41, failed to return from a scheduled visitation with their kids.

Illinois officials raced to the home following the mom’s tragic call where they declared Woo Chang and son Austin dead at the scene.

The six-year-old daughter who has yet to be identified was transported to a nearby hospital where she is in intensive care, said Inverness Police Chief Bob Haas.

While the cause of death has yet to be confirmed, investigators discovered a gasoline-powered generator that was turned on but had run out of fuel, the Daily Herald reported.

The mother had last talked to the children the night before the event, investigators said.

This was the first time police had been called to the home, according to Haas.

“It’s a very sad circumstance, and out thoughts and prayers go out to the family,” he said.

An anonymous next door neighbor said that Austin was a “wonderful kid” and mourned the loss of the child,

“He was truly one of the best kids I knew, and he was so, so sweet,” the neighbor told the Chicago Tribune.

“He put others first and he made me laugh all the time.

“[His sister] is just as great, she is a little sweetheart, and I am prayer that she pulls through.”

The Palatine Township Elementary District 15 confirmed that Austin was a student at Frank C. Whiteley Elementary School in a statement grieving his absence.

“This district is simply heartsick, and in both shock and mourning over the tragic loss of one of our students,” the statement reads.

“Our efforts right now are focused on offering support to staff and students at Frank C. Whiteley where the student attended school.

“It goes without saying that this is a devastating loss for all of us here in District 15, especially as we look to the remainder of the school year where the child’s absence will be felt by classmates and staff.”

The autopsies were scheduled for Monday, according to police.

Woman Died After Eating a “Vegan” Wrap That Had Traces of Dairy

A woman collapsed in the street unable to breathe after eating a “vegan” Pret a Manger (sandwich shop) flatbread that actually contained traces of dairy.

Celia Marsh, 42, a dental nurse, died after eating a ‘super-veg rainbow flatbread’ at a branch of the sandwich chain in Somerset, UK.

The wrap contained yogurt that was supposed to be vegan, but was found to include traces of dairy protein.

The mother of five suffered from a severe dairy allergy and Avon Coroner’s Court heard she “religiously avoided” all dairy products after a near-fatal allergic reaction months earlier.

Celia had been post-Christmas shopping with her three daughters and husband, Andy Marsh, when she went into the sandwich shop to buy something to eat.

In a statement read out in court, Andy Marsh said his wife had begun to feel “a bit funny” after eating the wrap, while they were in clothing store Gap, and they decided to leave the shop.

He said: “We started walking down the narrow side street by the Gap store and Celia had her asthma inhaler out.

“She used it a couple of times and I asked her if she was OK. She said she was struggling to breathe but it may be because of the cold air.”

“We then moved to a small side street on the left and I pulled her to one side.”

He said Celia had initially thought she was “being silly” because the sandwich had been labelled vegan.

“She had her Epipen in her hand and I said to her that if she thought there was any chance she was having a reaction that she should just do it and use the pen as it doesn’t matter,” he added.

“She then said to me ‘You need to phone an ambulance’.”

Andy said he phoned 999, by which time his wife had collapsed and was being tended to by an off-duty GP who had offered to help.

“They took Celia away in an ambulance but I had my children with me, so could not go in the ambulance with her to the hospital,” Andy said.

“I was really in shock so it took a short time before I was able to drive up to the hospital in my car. When we arrived at the hospital we were taken into a side room and we were told that Celia had been pronounced dead at 4pm.”

Brendan Turvey, a civil servant with first aid training who went to help Celia, described the “disturbing” scene as a crowd formed and Andy attempted to comfort his young daughter.

However, Shawn Eyles, one of the paramedics who attended, said in his statement that some shoppers had continued to step over Celia as she was being treated.

Andy Marsh and his daughters could be seen weeping during the hearing as the statements were read out.

An allergy specialist from Southmead Hospital, Dr. Nikolas Tsiougkos, also gave evidence about the seriousness of Celia Marsh’s condition.

The hearing took place at Ashton Court Mansion House in Bristol. Pret a Manger was charged with food safety failures, but the prosecution was later dropped due to lack of evidence.

The tragedy sparked an overhaul of food labelling laws, which now require retailers to display full ingredient and allergen labelling on every food item made on the premises and pre-packed for direct sale, including sandwiches, cakes and salads.

Three Young Children Die Alone on NYC Coney Island Beach

Three young children died after they were found alone on Brooklyn’s Coney Island Beach in the middle of the night early Monday — and their disturbed mother is suspected of drowning them, police sources said.

The kids — 7-year-old Zachary, 4-year-old Liliana and Oliver, just 3 months old — were discovered unconscious on the beach near the shoreline at W. 35th St. at 4:42 a.m.

Their 30-year-old mom Erin Merdy called a cousin saying she drowned them, according to a police source.

“Last I spoke to Erin she was struggling. However I did not realize it was this bad,” Merdy’s aunt Dine Stephens told the Daily News. “Many family members have struggled with mental illness.”

The tragic discovery was made after police responded to a 1:40 a.m. 911 call from Merdy’s sister.

“The caller indicated that she was concerned her family member may have harmed her three small children,” NYPD Chief of Department Kenneth Corey said at a grim press conference on Coney Island’s Riegelmann Boardwalk.

Cops went to Merdy’s home on Neptune Ave. near W. 33rd St. in Coney Island. They found the apartment door unlocked and nobody home.

Somewhere in the building police ran into the dad of one of the kids “who expressed similar concerns and said he believed the woman and the children were on the boardwalk,” Corey said.

Cops launched a search of the neighborhood, including the street, beach, boardwalk and hospital.

After about about 90 minutes, a 911 call came in sending police to the boardwalk near Brighton 6th St. in Brighton Beach.

Merdy was there with other family members but not the kids. She was drunk and emotionally disturbed, according to a police source.

“She was wet, she was barefoot and she was not communicative with officers,” Corey said.

Harbor cops and an NYPD aviation unit joined the search for the missing kids, who were discovered unconscious on the beach near the shoreline at W. 35th St. “The officers immediately initiated life-saving measures, including CPR,” Corey said.

Medics rushed the children to Coney Island Hospital, where doctors worked in vain to save them for a couple hours. All three were declared dead at 5:38 a.m., according to a police source.

”I’m very saddened to see this turn of events,” said Dine Stephen, Erin’s aunt. “We lost Erin’s father (my brother) a few years back and now his precious grandchildren are gone.”

Merdy was taken to the 60th Precinct stationhouse for questioning as cops continue to investigate. She has never been arrested. Cops have responded to six past domestic incidents involving her.

Later Monday morning, Merdy was taken from the stationhouse to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Last week, a worker inside Merdy’s building was in her apartment doing renovation work.

“She seemed to be fine,” the worker said, declining to give his name. “She had beautiful kids.”

The worker was due to return to her apartment Tuesday to do more work.

“This is insane,” he said after learning the children were dead.

Cops are looking for witnesses as the investigate how her kids died. The city Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy on all three children.

“We don’t know exactly what happened here yet,” Corey said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at about 2.30pm and found Luan with extremely serious injuries.

He was dashed to the Sao Vicente de Paulo Hospital but tragically died.

It is understood the young boy was at the shopping center with his dad and both were tourists in the town.

The pair were walking through the mall while waiting for a bus when Luan fell, according to local reports.

Five Dead After Whale Surfaces Under Boat and Flips it Over

A boat has capsized after a whale surfaced under it, killing five in a horror incident off the coast of New Zealand.

The vessel had 11 people on board when the whale is believed to have come up underneath it, flipping it over.

A major rescue operation was launched close to Kaikoura, off New Zealand’s South Island.

Two passengers were pronounced dead earlier this morning, with three still missing.

The missing passengers are now confirmed to have also died.

Those on board were believed to have been a group of women over the age of 50 who were bird enthusiasts, New Zealand news organization Stuff reported.

The six surviving passengers were taken back to shore following the horror incident near Goose Bay.

Police confirmed the 8.5m boat capsized following the collision and were still investigating exactly what happened.

The vessel involved is understood to belong to a local fishing charter business Fish Kaikoura.

It hosts a variety of fishing tours and the skipper was very experienced, according to the company’s website.

“This is an unprecedented event that has occurred,” Kaikoura Police Sergeant Matt Boyce said.

He added that there had been a “significant response of emergency services and members of the public, and Kaikōura maritime community”.

The police chief went on: “This has been a tragic event and the police are providing support to those involved at this very difficult time.”

Kaikoura’s mayor Craig Mackle appeared emotional as he described Saturday’s incident as a “tragic event that affects us all”.

He said that the sea conditions were “really, really” good at the time and that there had been several large whale sightings recently.

Pilot Daniel Stevenson who was one of the first on the scene told Stuff: “We saw an upturned boat with a fella sitting on top of it and the coastguard arrived shortly afterwards.

“We basically went down to have a look and make sure, if there was anybody floating in the water, that we could keep an eye on them until they were able to get a boat alongside and be rescued out of the water.

“The coastguard boat was there pretty quickly after we arrived – about a minute or so afterwards.”
