It’s been a hell of a year for Brendan Fraser, with him making his long-awaited comeback to the top.
But some people have raised concerns after he appeared to be a ‘broken man’ during a recent interview:
The film centres on a 600lb man called Charlie, played by Fraser, as he tries to reconnect with his teenage daughter.
Fraser has been heavily praised for his performance, receiving a six-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival last year, winning a Critics Choice award and most recently nominated for an Oscar.
However, some fans became worried after the 54-year-old appeared in Lorraine to talk about the movie and his Brenaissance.
If you’ve seen the actor talk about the film and Charlie’s story, you’ll know how emotional it is for him, as is his sudden return to the spotlight.
And some viewers felt like it seemed to be getting to him a little.
“Is it just me or does Brendan Fraser look and sound like a broken man on @lorraine this morning,” wrote one. “I hope he’s not and it’s jetlag.”
Another commented: “Love Brendan Fraser movies, but he does look a troubled man.”
“Brendan Fraser on @lorraine has my heart, I just want to hug him!” put a third.
While someone else added: “Brendan Fraser tearing up at receiving a compliment on the Lorraine show.”
This comes after Fraser managed to beat the likes of Austin Butler for Elvis, Tom Cruise for Top Gun: Maverick, Colin Farrell for The Banshees of Inisherin, Paul Mescal for Aftersun, and Bill Nighy for Living to the Best Actor gong at the Critics Choice Awards recently.
In an emotional acceptance speech, Fraser said: “This movie, The Whale, it’s about love, it’s about redemption.
“It’s about finding the light in a dark place and I’m so lucky to have worked with an ensemble that is incredible.
“Darren Aronofsky, I was in the wilderness, and I probably should have left a trail of breadcrumbs, but you’ve found me.
“And like all the best directors, you merely just showed me where to go to get to where I needed to be.”
He added: “If you, like a guy like Charlie, who I played in this movie, in any way, struggle with obesity, or you just feel like you’re in a dark sea.
“I want you to know that if you too, can have the strength to just get to your feet and go to the light. Good things will happen.”
Now, we’ve just got to wait and see if he can complete his comeback with an Oscar win.
