Five people have been killed and 37 injured when they were unable to escape a tunnel fire in South Korea.
A freight truck and a bus collided, setting alight under a soundproof awning on a major highway through Seoul earlier today.
The fire quickly spread along the structure, destroying more than 40 other vehicles.
A witness described the panic as people tried to escape because traffic had built up and the fire spread so quickly.
The National Fire Agency said in a statement that the three of the injured were in serious conditions while 34 others suffered relatively minor injuries.
Earlier TV footage showed thick black plumes of smoke billowing from the tunnel, but fire officials said later they’ve almost put out the blaze on the Second Gyeongin Expressway.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the collision and the fire, or what cargo the truck was carrying.
The public affairs office at the fire agency couldn’t immediately confirm where the five dead came from.
