Man is Attacked by Lions After Jumping Zoo Security Fence

A man was killed and eaten by a lion after breaking into a zoo to try and steal a cub.

The shocking incident occurred in Accra Zoo, Ghana, with the man believed to be in his thirties.

He was spotted around the premises on Sunday at about 12 noon after managing to scale the zoo’s security fence, reports Joy Online.

In what is suspected to be an attempt to steal a cub, the intruder was pounced upon by the lions and devoured, according to the Forestry Commission.

And the man died from the injuries sustained in the attack which took place “within the inner fencing of the enclosure”.

Benito Owusu Bio, deputy minister for lands and natural resources said: “The lions have cubs so if you come too close they may feel you are trying to take away their babies.

“We ask the public to desist from doing anything like this.”

The Commission added that the motive of the intruder was yet to be confirmed.

Police were called to the scene to clear the body as investigations got underway,

His body has since been deposited at the morgue.

Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that the lion, lioness and two cubs are safe and remain secure at the zoo.

And the Commission were also keen to stress that no lion escaped from the zoo as a result of the incident.

Police said they were working with the zoo to investigate the incident. 

The statement said: “After the necessary forensic examination of the scene, the body was removed and has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

“The police are working with the management of the zoo and the forestry commission to get to the bottom of this unfortunate incident.”

It comes after a video showed the horror moment a monkey attacked a young girl and left her fighting for her life.

And a 6-year-old girl from India fell victim to a leopard who mauled her in a fatal attack.
