A wild incident involving an Oklahoma woman apparently high on meth who slipped out of her handcuffs in the back seat of a patrol car, grabbed an officer’s AR-15 and started shooting, was all caught on video.
The situation unfolded last Friday when deputies with the Grady County Sheriff’s Office were responding to a welfare check on a woman later identified as 36-year-old Racheal Clay. The homeowner told police Clay wasn’t violent but she was “crawling around on her hand and knees in the yard and barking at them,” KOTV reported.
Deputies detained Clay for erratic behavior, handcuffed her and placed her in the back of the patrol car as a safety precaution, per department policy, while they interviewed the witness.
While in the back seat, Clay was able to free herself from the handcuffs, which police insist were “put on properly,” reports state. Then she reached forward through the plexiglass partition and grabbed the deputy’s gun.
“She was able to reach up on our consoles. There are several switches. one is a gun switch to unlock the gun lock, and she found it, unlocked the gun locker, and was able to receive retrieve a AR 15 rifle,” Grady County Undersheriff, Gary Boggess said in a statement to KOKH, adding that it took Clay 15 to 20 minutes to figure out how to operate the weapon.
“Then she was able to figure out how to put a round in it, put it on fire and she fired approximately 10 rounds at our deputies and a civilian,” Boggess said.
Footage from inside the patrol car shows all of Clay’s movements. Meanwhile, body cam video shows the deputies were confused about where the rounds were suddenly coming from.
“Did she get out of her cuffs?” a deputy is heard asking on the video.
One deputy and one civilian were injured in the shooting. Both sustained non-life-threatening injuries and have been released from the hospital.
Clay, who police say tested positive for methamphetamine, barricaded herself inside the vehicle for nearly three-and-a-half hours before surrendering, KFOR reported.
Clay is facing multiple counts of shooting with intent to kill. Bond was set at $1 million.
FUNNY HOW THE HEADLINE IS MISSING THE PART ABOUT WHO’S AR15 HE WAS SHOT WITH BUT IT’S A GOOD THIING SHE DIDN’T GRAB HIS 9MM HANDGUN OR HIS LUNGS WOULD BE BLOWN OUT.
They should have shot and killed her…period.
