A Florida father posted a tragic selfie with his two smiling children on Facebook less then an hour before authorities say he shot them dead in a murder-suicide.
Humberto Christian Tovar Zapata, 41, shared the black and white photo of him and his children — Baleria Tovar, 12, and Matias Tovar, 9 — on his social media account at 8:36 p.m. Tuesday.
At 9:26 p.m., police said, they received a 911 call reporting a domestic-related shooting outside a Miami Lakes apartment complex.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the photo was taken in the lead-up to the murder-suicide, or if the father had shared an older image.
The children’s mother — who is also Tovar Zapata’s estranged wife — made the grim discovery after earlier getting into an argument with him over their whereabouts, police said.
The mother found their bodies near a canal bank close to the apartment complex when she went looking for them.
Tovar Zapata and his two children were pronounced dead at the scene after authorities found them all suffering from gunshot wounds.
A gun was also discovered next to Tovar Zapata, police said.
Tovar Zapata’s mother, Luz Kutnitz, told Local 10 News that her son and his wife had been married for 12 years but separated in August last year.
Kutnitz said her son suffered from bipolar disorder — and she knew he needed help.
“He was dealing with bipolarity. He never took care of it. He never wanted to take medication therapy,” his mother told the outlet.
