Clint Eastwood sent a message Sunday night that wasn’t very cryptic about his future in the public spotlight. The actor and former politician said he’s too old for gracefully aging in the eyes of the world anymore.
From a Fistful of Dollars to the Million Dollar Baby, Eastwood has played so many memorable roles in Americana cinema. This goes from The Outlaw Josey Wales to Bronco Billy, and from driving beat-up trucks to a Gran Torino. All the while, he’s held his characters in cinema at top echelons.
Eastwood on Sunday night sent a tweet that was rather poignant, and so subtly said as only an Eastwood character could say.
“I think being able to age gracefully is a very important talent. It is too late for me,” the 91-year-old actor said.”

Eastwood has been a high plains drifter, a pale rider, one dirty Harry, helped with two mules for sister Sarah and he seeked out a perfect world. He escaped from Alcatraz, played ‘Misty for Me’ on the radio, trained high-level marines for Heartbreak Ridge and told an orangutan to give a “right turn” to a stalking biker gang.
This still barely drips from the iceberg of this actor’s gargantuan career.
Enjoy your retirement Sir!
Have enjoyed your movies and you as a person for most of my 63 years. Best wishes for you in your retirement!
I wish Clint Eastwood had contributed more of his middle-road political sensibilities and views beyond his beloved Carmel-by-the-Sea, but, as movie-goers, we were lucky enough to experience more than a half century of his acting and directing prowess. I am grateful. Clint Eastwood has earned his retirement and solitude in his twilight years after making every movie with one or two takes and finishing on-time and under budget. Eastwood has set an impossible standard of excellence for others to attempt to replicate. So many extraordinary characters and always high-quality entertainment. I will miss his brand of old-fashioned, old-school entertainment. Academy Award winner Sean Penn had it right when he said Clint Eastwood belongs on the Hollywood equivalent of Mount Rushmore and I agree. Goodness knows there are precious few who meet that standard. Godspeed.
I’ve been in love with you for many years! You’re a hell of an actor and I have enjoyed the time I spent watching you. Have a fantastic retirement and you are still graceful and handsome as ever. 🙂 Love every part you played man!
Enjoy your retirement, if that is what you really want! To me you will always be the dashing young cop – my ideal cop! God bless you always!
Long lived Clint you’re the symbol of true justice we’ll missing you forever as Taiwanese American who loves you as America’s icons!
