A council of US Catholic bishops has voted to keep President Joe Biden from taking Holy Communion because of his views on abortion.
After three days of online debate, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) voted by three to one to draft new guidance on the eucharist. Conservative bishops are behind the push to draw up a new teaching document expected to say that Catholics who diverge from the church’s standpoint on abortion should be denied Holy Communion.
Bishop Kevin Rhoades of Fort Wayne-South Bend, who proposed the motion, said: “We need to accept the discipline that those who obstinately persist in grave sin are not to be admitted to holy communion.”
Biden, only the second Catholic behind JFK to be elected president, attends Mass every weekend and carries a rosary that belonged to his late son, said in response to the vote that the matter was private, saying only, “I don’t think that’s going to happen.”
US bishops voted 168-55 to advance plans for a statement on Communion access that will be reviewed at a future meeting, likely in November. The new teaching document, to be drafted by the doctrine committee of US bishops, will not be binding on individual bishops, who have the right to decide whether a parishioner should be denied Communion.
Some members of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops argued that a rebuke of Biden is needed as his administration promotes the expansion of abortion rights in other countries.
The Catholic archbishop of San Francisco, Salvatore Cordileone, said last month that Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) cannot be served Communion over their political support for abortion rights.
Cordileone said in an interview with The Daily Caller that he has privately discussed the issue with Pelosi and that she knows better than to do something “so provocative” as take Communion.
But Pope Francis, who is known for his oftentimes liberal views, is believed to oppose cutting off Communion to Biden. He said in a recent sermon that Communion “is not the reward of saints, but the bread of sinners,” and his allies campaigned against the US bishops’ push.
Catholics believe that bread and wine served during Communion literally becomes the blood and body of Jesus.
Biden is a frequent churchgoer and the first Catholic in office since the Supreme Court legalized abortion nationwide with the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. The Catholic church says that Catholics in public life should uphold principles consistent with its doctrine. But in a survey carried out by the Pew Research Center in March, more than two-thirds of US Catholics said Biden’s views on abortion should not disqualify him from receiving Communion. It is none of his business. He is not running the Catholic Church. Remember “separation of church from state” was part of the Founders of this country. They made sure that it was written. Why? Because the Church became all too powerful in Europe and when they arrived here – they wanted to worship as they chose. I agree, Joe Biden, should be banned from receiving Communion. That announcement gave me satisfaction. Regardless of his son’s rosary he carries in his pocket. Lovely he uses this rosary to remember is dead son. But, Biden also believes in abortion. Sad that he claims to be a practicing Catholic.
He personally doesn’t believe in abortion but the Roe vs. Wade was passed back in 1973. Again that is a matter between a woman, her family and her doctors. No one else need apply. It’s a personal choice and as President he can not override it because it is the law.
This is – I’m sorry to say – a universal proclivity of the human race. This is not confined to any subset within the human race. Saying one thing with your mouth and living in ways that contradict it requires that a standard exists far beyond the vacillations of the individual. Rather than acknowledge our own divergence we rail against the standard and/or those that point out our divergence.

The Bishops are not pushing their views on anyone who isn’t Catholic. The discussion is about Joe Biden who professes to be a good Catholic not following the beliefs of his CHOSEN religion. If he doesn’t follow the beliefs of his religion, lies to God by taking communion, which is hypocritical since he supports/wants to enable abortion, killing unborn babies, is wrong according to his religion.
If someone knowingly buys a gun and bullets so someone else can shoot and kill someone else they’re an accessory to murder aren’t they? Thus he should not take communion. He’s not truly in a state of grace needed to take communion. It’s not a matter of if abortion is right or wrong, but a matter of him not following the teachings of his church and not truly being on the up and up while receiving the sacrement. It appears his relationship with God is based on his lie. Sacrement in Latin means solemn oath.

I am a Pro life Catholic, and a Eucharistic Minister Whether, or not I believe Biden should be denied is irrelevant My job is to obey the wishes of Jesus and my Pastor .I will do as Father directs me to do. I can do no less..
Biden is not only pro-abortion, he is forcing taxpayers to violate their consciences by paying for abortions. He has also officiated at a homosexual marriage and he is pro-transsexual agenda. He contradicts many Church teachings. It is a matter of scandal to the faithful. He should be denied the Eucharist until he repents of these public anti-Catholic actions.
Our Catholic Church believes in the sanctity of life first and foremost and follow Christ’s teachings. As a public figure Biden proclaims to be pro-abortion and consequently he takes part in the murdering of babies. Biden should enter our Church with a truly contrite heart and on his own will kneel before God and ask for forgiveness. Then, receive the Body of Christ after absolution from his priest. That is his freedom that comes from God for him. Those are the dictates of the Catholic Church, which was instituted by Christ. Otherwise, he is not a true Catholic, no matter what he self proclaims to be, or what he stands for, or represents. Furthermore, unfortunately for him and others like him, as a public figure, his beliefs and ideas regarding abortion are anti-Catholic and hurt our Church; they are anathema to true Catholics.
